Mon, November 5, 2007 - 9:26 AMAmmonia Dichromate. You can usually pick it up at Chemical supply places, although Kodak does sell it as well.
Mix the Crystals with water, add to Elmers glue. Play with it for the ideal ratios (I think I did one tablespoon of crystals : 2 oz. water : 6 oz glue, but my memory is hazy)

Mon, November 5, 2007 - 3:11 PMdefinitely. In 1990, the 16 oz jar of Ammonium Dichromate was about $12, and that lasted for several years of Photo Graffiti, er, um, I mean "prints"... :)
Yeah, figure it's about $5/per quart as opposed to $20. Your mileage may vary... :) -

Fri, November 9, 2007 - 9:09 PMIt is the real stuff. Ammonium Dichromate + PVA Glue = emulsion. What you're saving in $ you lose in predictability from batch to batch, but it's the same stuff. Just be prepared to be creative, flexible, and patient learning the mix you need.
More Dichromate = Faster Exposure = More Brittle a Stencil -

Mon, November 12, 2007 - 4:29 PMJust as a heads up, remember that it is also highly toxic, with organ failure often the first symptom.
I don't know if you know about the famous printers Kelly and Mouse who did alot of the SF psychedelic rock posters, but in the 90's one of them was looking for a new kidney, with what success I don't know.

Yes, nasty stuff, a dust mask and gloves.
Thank god it's not nearly so toxic topically, and nowhere near the toxicity of Painter's pigments (Cadmium and Cobalt being the two biggies), but be careful.
