hard to say, but i would guess your method for making films is no good, either get a printer to make the films, go somewhere to get films made, or buy an opaqueing pen to draw your art on a clear film. opaqueing pens are available from offset or screenprinting supply places, i got mine from valley litho they have a website.

well what happen is that probably your image is too close from the light source, light source didnt do much light coverage, exposure is a little bit longer or your image is not dark enough.

what would you do is that calibrate everything i had the same experience (btw dont use sharpie (markers) i tried that also it makes smudges on your burn image from your screen) as what i said calibrate the height of your light source if your using a Stand Lamp like exposure (500 watt bulb) you really have to adjust it 16-18 inches above to get a good coverage and it depends on your what size of screen and mesh.. If you are using a box type exposure unit using 6 or 5 ordinary T12 20 watt fluorescent it only take 3-4 mins. Also it depends on what kind of emulsion you are using id never use Ulano Tz emulsion i dont know how long it will take to burn to get the right timing not all emulsion are different thet differ from their consistency and class. I suggest you to look ur emulsion if they are cooked in a rightful manner trust me u will see the difference.. i know experimenting will take time calibrating everything just make you nuts

To get rid with your emulsion you should dip it with emulsion/stencil remover and scrub it gently (use gloves btw) if you burn your image in a right way its easy to get rid with emulsion to recover your screen. what happen is that if your image is not burned right the emulsion will stick to your screen and that is really hard to get rid with that.

i hope i answer your questions (sorry for my english btw lol) and dont use sharpie markers for crying out loud LOL!!

Hi! i'm new to this medium. and i am not having first timers luck. I am doing a project with student art and I am trying to print their images onto fabric to in turn create a quilt. I traced their work with black sharpie on to tracing paper.

My problem is that whether i have a long exposure(30 min or short %min The result is always the same... When i am washing out the emulsion I only get a clear wash in a few areas the other areas turn white but don't wash away. Soon after the eulsion seems to erode away.
I am using Ulano tz emulsion. I am using a home made exposure unit with black light tubes.

I did get 1 clean print but it was so many trys ago I am not sure what i did. I have sence learned to write steps down!!
any help; suggestions would be greatly apprieciated
